Specialist recording and storage systems manufacturer, Visimetrics, has announced the expansion of their Head Office site in Prestwick, Scotland with a 3000 ft² Custom Configuration Centre. The expansion will provide Visimetrics with dedicated facilities for system customisation as well as customer simulation and factory acceptance testing prior to project installation.

Visimetrics, manufacturer of the FASTAR Real-Time recording system, has opened the new Configuration Centre in Prestwick to satisfy the increasing demand to deliver fully customised and integrated solutions to dedicated users. As the scale and complexity of solutions being deployed by the company increases so has the necessity to provide bespoke configurations.

"The Casino" forms an integral part of the unique marina development of Portomaso situated in exclusive district of St. Julians on Malta's north-eastern coast.

Overview

The Casino at Portomaso is situated within one of the most exclusive corners of real estate anywhere in the Mediterranean. Creating a gaming experience to equal the inspiring waterfront development of Portomaso was a challenge headed by Casino Director, Laurie Galea. A key requirement in establishing The Casino as the finest gaming experience in Malta was the quality of surveillance system installed. The Casino management eventually entrusted this challenge to casino integrator, Correct Termination.

“Taking on this project was not simply one of suggesting what we thought was the best system for the casino. We also had to meet the demanding expectations of the casino’s management and surveillance teams and ultimately prove the solution in practice before the installation at The Casino could begin” states Joe Mallia, Director of Correct Termination.

Requirements

The Casino wanted the best digitally recorded video and audio surveillance solution available. Through early evaluations Mallia extracted this out to the following essential requirements:

• Provide image quality better than S-VHS
• Ensure lip-synchronised DVD quality audio
• RAID storage for data redundancy of gaming table cameras
• Instant access to recordings for dispute resolution
• Ease of use

The Challenge

The surveillance system for the casino needed to record exceptional image and audio quality. Expectations of investing in a digital solution were very high and no level of compromise was afforded. Throughout the two years prior to the opening of The Casino at Portomaso, Correct Termination evaluated an extensive list of possible solutions including Visimetrics FASTAR digital video recorder. “After evaluating FASTAR I knew we had at last found the digital recording system that would meet the requirements and expectations of the surveillance system at The Casino” comments Joe Mallia.

The Solution

Working closely with Correct Termination during the evaluation period, Visimetrics designed a FASTAR solution optimised to record the highest quality of content from all video and audio sources within The Casino. Through constantly refining and evaluating a tailored solution was achieved to give the management and surveillance teams the quality of surveillance recordings they required.

The solution utilises FASTAR’s flexibility of storage modes. All gaming cameras are recorded in real-time with full-frame video, DVD quality audio and minimal compression by FASTAR operating in diskless mode. Recordings are streamed to external network attached storage systems providing full data redundancy via RAID5 configurations. Non-gaming cameras are recorded to the internal disks of each FASTAR providing a very efficient overall storage solution to achieve the required recording period.

Network Video Recorder’s from Visimetrics, manufacturers of the Digital Evidence Recorder, have recently been added to the University of Wolverhampton’s surveillance recording system providing a hybrid recording solution for over 270 cameras.

OCTAR Net NVR’s have been installed by systems integrator, Thompson AVC, across the Universities city centre campuses to economically expand the surveillance recording system. The Universities existing recording solution of OCTAR System DVR’s has seamlessly been incorporated to create a fully integrated recording solution across the entire property estate.

Scott Thompson, Managing Director of Thompson AVC explains: “We initially deployed OCTAR DVR’s around the existing campuses utilising traditional analogue cameras. As the system grew with the Universities expansion we had to incorporate an IP-based solution to deliver the CCTV system across such vast geographical areas economically. OCTAR Net was the obvious choice to provide the University with a fully integrated solution.”

Visimetrics CONTROL user interface provides operators with a single point of access to view, control and archive any camera within the overall system regardless of source. The capability of ease of use of CONTROL has also enabled the University to provide direct access to the local police authorities force liaison officer. Incident investigations can now be achieved directly by the police reviewing the recordings for incident investigation without the assistance of site security operators maximising use of resources.

Future expansion of the surveillance recording system includes integration within a Control Room Management system providing operators with a single source of access to all electronic security systems.
